Big changes coming soon….

I have consulted with a web designer on making a full-blown website, and possibly moving my site from word press or go self hosting. Nothing is set in stone, which is why I am posting this here.

I’m looking for all feedback, positive and negative on going self hosting.

I have also given a lot of thought of changing my site name from “Dishing it out with Clarissa” to “Dish With Clarissa” as this change would make finding my site easier, as well as cutting loose a long name to have to type in search fields. I still own through US copyright both names, one will sit dormant or I may use it for another project in the future and the other name will be my permanent name.

I am having another site being built in the next six months as my author site.  I do have a couple of books in the works, and this site will be my full name .com.

But for now I would really like to hear any/all feedback no matter what! Open forum …

Much thanks in advance!!

About Clarissa Cordero

Hi, I'm Clarissa from Huntington Beach, CA, I am an Author, Foodie and self taught "Home Cook" I love to “Dish” when it comes to anything that is food related as it has been a passion of mine from the moment I was able to hold a spatula. I have well over thirty years of experience in cooking, baking, and grilling. I've spent the last five or so years learning to replicate dishes of various cuisines around the world, create new dishes and reboot some of the classics I grew up with. It has been a pleasure sharing with others my passion, ideas, tips, and tricks that will make life in the kitchen fun and a lot easier.

  1. Hi Clarissa,

I’ve watched a few bloggers move from to or another self hosted platform. Some have come back to because they found it more flexible ironically. I hope whatever you decide you continue to have a like button. I also hope that whatever platform you use will be clear and easy to navigate on a desktop, tablet and smartphone.

  2. Selfishly, I’d say stick to WordPress because it’s easy to reblog you! From a flexible point of view, I’d say you’re better off with WordPress, as Gary says. I’m currently (and very slowly!) moving the posts from my theatre site, Rogues & Vagabonds, to a WordPress blog and wishing that blogs had been as available and as advanced in terms of control when I founded R&V in 2002. I worked so hard on what ultimately proved to be a very bad system that I ended up having 4 TIAs in 2008 (there were other reasons as well but you get my drift!) I also hope that whatever you decide, you continue to have a like button.

  3. I’ve gone to self-hosting. Quite frankly, there have been SO many hiccups – I’ve had to restart my blog about 3 times because the different hosting sites couldn’t handle my volume of graphics without crashing frequently. The ones that can handle it charge about $100-$500 monthly for this service. So beware, the free hosting sites aren’t all they’re cracked up to be! This also meant I’ve lost all my regular followers. I still have the same or better volume than before but at least twice the spam. I also found that the plug ins that are supposed to be so great don’t work well at all with my theme. They ended up causing the site to bog down. If I had to do it over again, I’m not sure I would!

All Feedback Is Appreciated!
